about

sometimes images stay with me for a long time and wait for a home in a song.

i saw the perfectly severed head of a crow while on a walk in rochester. how and why the cut was so clean is still a mystery to me. its feathers were slicked back. it looked like elvis presley.

lyrics

inside the blue
the sleek bold bright jet
slips through clouds
i stare at my phone
its face blank
no answer is not an answer

rocks are hard
and can do many things
even to other rocks
the one in my hand
heavy as a head

why don’t you tell me what’s going on
why do say you’re not at home
when i can see all your lights are on

a cloud moves across the sky
self-involved as a continent
given time most things
would still need more time

i’m not going to follow
you around anymore
or wait to see what kind of mood you’re in
i guess we can just be facebook friends

why don’t you tell me what’s going on
why do say you’re not at home
when i can see all your lights are on?

the head of a crow severed at the neck
the sun makes a jewel of his one open eye
his beak closed tight like a bible
i don’t know what killed him
the cut is so clean
he looks kinda famous
like elvis, circa 1970
