as we were loading out for a gig, i overheard kari jokingly chide john "oh, first you let me down and then you make me wait" while they were carrying an amplifier up the stairs. this inspired me to use musical equipment as a metaphor for relationship. additionally, during a writing retreat in trempealeau, wisconsin when nothing was really "hitting," john sort of fell into this riff. we all yelled "keep playing that," and let me down was born.
